Ah, New Years’ Day, when the dust settles from the night before and prominent, (debatably) respected news hosts look back in horror at the night before.

This year, not to be outdone by drunk Don Lemon, Anderson Cooper decided to get on in CNN’s now-infamous tradition of having “serious” news anchors let their hair down and get plastered on TV.

Why, I have no idea. It’s not exactly like we have a respectable news media anymore, but are they not willing to at least continue the charade through New Years’ Eve and just let some comedian get drunk on TV instead?

At least the tradition has given us some wonderful news clips (thank you, Don. Thank you), and now one of CNN’s most…er…only halfway decent hosts has gotten in on the action.

This was before he told Faye Dunaway about his mom’s sex life, which no one seems to have asked about, telling her mama had “hooked up with” Marlon Brando (OK to be fair I might brag about that as well):

“She and Carol Matthau both watched the movie and both made a deal they were going to ‘meet up,'” Cooper said. “Carol got it first and then set it up for my mom. It was a ‘one night date.'”

His mother, if you were not aware, is the famous heiress and designer Gloria Vanderbilt.

Happy New Year, CNN!
