Sen. Rand Paul’s Speech Against The COVID Relief Bill Goes Viral

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky stood to address the Senate on Monday afternoon, where he delivered an epic speech against the coronavirus relief package, telling fellow Republicans that if they vote in favor of the legislation they are no better than the Democrats they trash for aligning themselves with socialism.

“To so-called conservatives who are quick to identify the socialism of Democrats: If you vote for this spending monstrosity, you are no better,” the senator said.

The House passed the bill, with lawmakers tacking on a $1.4 trillion catchall spending bill  just before Christmas break.

This relief package will send $600 direct stimulus payments to most Americans, while also injecting a new round of subsidies for businesses who were hit hard during lockdowns designed to fight the spread of the coronavirus.

“If free money was the answer… if money really did grow on trees, why not give more free money?” he said. “Why not give it out all the time? Why stop at $600 a person? Why not $1,000? Why not $2,000? Maybe these new Free-Money Republicans should join the Everybody-Gets-A-Guaranteed-Income Caucus? Why not $20,000 a year for everybody, why not $30,000? If we can print out money with impunity, why not do it?”

The Senate later aligned with the House and passed the COVID-19 relief package and government funding plan. The vote was 91-6, and members needed 60 votes to pass the bill since it skipped several parliamentary steps, Fox News’ Chad Pergram reported.

The other five Republicans who stood up against the bill and cast a “no” vote were Sens. Rick Scott, Mike Lee, Marsha Blackburn, Ted Cruz, and Ron Johnson.

One of the reasons these folks were against the bill is due to the fact it’s a massive piece of legislation and no one was given adequate time to read it in order to know what, exactly, was contained in the bill.

We all know that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been trying to sneak through a number of Democrat “wishlist” items in such a bill, which is why she’s been holding out on negotiations until now.

There’s no way she gave in now without getting a serious number of these items put into the bill.

Guess we’ll be finding out soon enough what is inside this monster.
