Sen. Rand Paul recently advised folks who have taken the COVID-19 vaccine to “live free” and “trash your mask” after new guidance has been issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Rather than listening to government scolds, look to the science of immunology: and once you’re 2 weeks out from the vaccine, or have recovered from the actual infection, trash your mask and live free again,” Paul posted on his Twitter profile.

“COVID-19 continues to exert a tremendous toll on our nation. Like you, I want to be able to return to everyday activities and engage with our friends, families, and communities,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said referring to the updated guidance. “Science and the protection of public health must guide us as we begin to resume these activities. Today’s action represents an important first step. It is not our final destination.”
“As more people get vaccinated, levels of COVID-19 infection decline in communities, and as our understanding of COVID immunity improves, we look forward to updating these recommendations to the public,” Walensky went on to add.
The CDC defines individuals as fully vaccinated people as those who are either two weeks out from receiving both doses of the Moderna or the Pfizer vaccine or the single-dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The new guidance says fully vaccinated people can gather indoors with other vaccinated people without the need for masks or social distancing. Fully vaccinated people may also gather with unvaccinated people from one household who are at low-risk for severe COVID-19 complications.
But the CDC urged continued caution for those who are fully vaccinated, advising the continued use of masks and social distancing while around those at severe risk of COVID-19 complications and in public places such as grocery stores. The guidance also continues to recommend against medium and large-sized crowds.
“We continue to have high levels of virus around the country, and more readily transmissible variants have now been confirmed in nearly every state. While we work to quickly vaccinate people more and more each day, we have to see this through,” Walensky went on to say. “Let’s stick together. Please keep wearing a well-fitting mask and taking the other public health actions we know work to help stop the spread of this virus.”
Well, that Rand Paul, he really understands what it means to live free, doesn’t he? It seems like Paul has been coming out hard lately against the insanity of the authoritarians in Congress and around the country.
Let’s hope he keeps that up.
And yes, if you’re vaccinated, stop living in fear. In fact, even if you’re not vaccinated, you don’t have to live in fear. That’s what the authoritarians want. Let’s not give them what they want. It’s far more satisfying to deny what their hearts crave.
