Rand Paul And Anthony Fauci Go Toe-To-Toe Over Masks

Sen. Rand Paul and Dr. Anthony Fauci were once again involved in a rather tense exchange on Thursday when the two began to argue over COVID-19 restrictions.

During this little sparring match, Paul accused Fauci of performing theater by wearing two masks.

“If we’re not spreading the infection, isn’t it just theater?” Paul  said to Fauci during a Senate hearing. “If you’ve had the vaccine and you’re wearing two masks, isn’t that theater?”

“No, it’s not — here we go again with the theater,” Fauci replied. “Let’s get down to the facts,” the infectious disease expert fired back, going on to explain that the studies Paul cited showing people who have been infected have very little chance of being infected again only “look at in vitro examination of memory immunity” and that the authors of the studies “specifically say, ‘This does not necessarily pertain to the actual protection. It’s in vitro.”

“The other thing is, that when you talk about reinfection, and you don’t keep in the concept of variants, that’s an entirely different ballgame. That’s a good reason for a mask,” Fauci went on to add.

Paul then accused the doctor of “making policy based on conjecture” and then went on to say, “You’ve been vaccinated, and you parade around in two masks for show.”

“Let me just state for the record that masks are not theater. Masks are protective,” Fauci said in response.

Paul shot back, saying, “If you have immunity, they are theater. If you already have immunity, you’re wearing a mask to give comfort to others.

The two doctors have clashed multiple times in the past, both in person and via Paul’s Twitter account, including a tweet where the Republican called on Fauci to apologize to every parent of a student for not supporting the opening of schools.

Rand Paul is the man. Plain and simple. He’s saying everything we want to say to Fauci right to his face. It’s awesome to finally have a voice in the Senate who actually stands up boldly for conservative principles.

Fauci is definitely engaging in political theater with the masks. It’s an attempt to continue pushing us deep under the thumb of big government. Period.
