NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo Now Facing Tight Deadline In Impeachment Investigation

State lawmakers have now told New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday that their current impeachment investigation is almost about to wrap up and that he has until Aug. 13 in order to provide additional evidence.

Since the month of March, the Assembly’s judiciary committee has been looking into whether or not there are legitimate grounds for impeachment due to sexual harassment allegations against Cuomo, along with the fact that he misled the public concerning COVID outbreaks in nursing homes, and also used state resources and staff members to help with his $5 million book deal.

In a letter sent Thursday, the law firm leading the investigation, Davis Polk & Wardwell, reminded Cuomo’s legal team that it has requested certain documents by subpoena and expected “full compliance from the governor,” but that his time to respond was almost up.

“We write to inform you that the Committee’s investigation is nearing completion and the Assembly will soon consider potential articles of impeachment against your client,” they went on to write. “Accordingly, we invite you to provide any additional evidence or written submissions that you would like the Committee to consider before its work concludes.”

The letter was released publicly by Assembly Judiciary Committee Chair Charles Lavine, a Long Island Democrat.

The committee has scheduled its next meeting on the matter for Monday.

An independent investigation released earlier this week that was overseen by Attorney General Letitia James found that Cuomo sexually harassed at least 11 women, and that his administration retaliated against at least one of them for going public with her allegations.

Really, Cuomo should just go ahead and resign already. We all know his poor decision making led to thousands of New Yorkers dying on his watch. Along with that, so many women have come forward with these allegations that it’s impossible to deny them, especially when he himself said that his touches may have been misinterpreted.

What that comment means is that he did indeed touch them. Which he should not have done. In fact, one of the accusers said that the governor actually groped her breast. Others went on to say that Cuomo gave them unwanted kisses or other forms of unwanted touches.

Just resign. It’s less embarrassing than being booted out of office, which seems pretty likely at this point.
