Liberal Local And State Officials Use Coronavirus Funds For Free College, Guaranteed Income

Liberal state and local officials are using up coronavirus funds that were part of the CARES Act to help relieve some of the hardships caused by lockdowns to fund their pet projects like basic income programs and free college, before the money reverts back to the federal government.

This, of course, is not what the money was intended to be used for, but hey, progressives will always jump at the chance to use other people’s money for their own political ends, right? Heck, that’s what socialism is all about.

The CARES Act provided a whopping $139 billion in payments to local and state governments to be used for utility assistance for struggling residents and other such things, not to help fund dream projects for liberals.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is spending millions on free college for more than 600,000 essential workers.

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell agreed to spend $629,000 to hire 15 community relations specialists.

Democratic St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter recently announced a guaranteed income program for low-income families using $300,000 in CARES Act money but has received pushback from a fellow Democrat. Earlier in September, Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn., wrote a letter to Carter expressing concern that the spending fell outside of federal guidelines and could be subject to recoupment by the U.S. Treasury.

That’s just a small sampling of some of the things this money is being used for. No matter how you cut it, this is abusing the goodwill of the federal government, and by extension, the American taxpayer. The money is to be used for things that directly relieve the stress and pressure caused by coronavirus shutdowns, not for trying experimental pay programs.

Liberals are using this money to test run things they’d like to see become law and permanent policy later on down the road, which is a misappropriation of funds. These folks need to be held accountable for this.
